Who We Are And How We Got Here

Welcome to our studio! We are Tony and Karen Novak. We live in a small village-town called Granville at the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains in southwestern Massachusetts.

Several years ago, we renovated our 1850 carpenter-gothic home and discovered that we love to create with wood. After getting our house to a habitable condition (which took over two years and will forever be a work-in-progress), we still had an old open shed that needed lots of TLC. So we turned the shed into an enclosed state-of-the-art woodworking studio and Granville Woodsmiths was founded. Although we are professionally schooled as an engineer (Tony) and an accountant (Karen), our evolution has been a natural progression as we were both raised in families with an appreciation and passion for fine woodworking and carpentry. Further, we both thrive on creating and working with our hands.
We consider ourselves exceptional craftsmen in furniture, accessories and built-in carpentry due to our attention to detail and overall fussiness about what we do and how we do it. We know the importance of proper wood selection, quality joinery techniques, and durable finishing processes. All of our furniture and accessories are hand crafted and custom made to order. Although some items may be on hand and ready for sale, just ask if you see something here that you like. Many of our pieces are Shaker inspired as our work embraces their tenets of quality in workmanship, ingenuity, hard work, simplicity, and resultant beauty without adornment.
